The Expectant Couple

Spring has sprung here in the Hermit Kingdom, with trees blooming all over the place. Elisha and I are enjoying our Spring Break this week, although we are both battling a pretty bad cold/flu. It sort of feels like this week is the calm before the storm, as it won’t be long until we’ll be welcoming little “Wolfgang” to our family (we’re leaning towards traditional German names…). I am definitely starting to have feelings of excitement and anticipation towards the day, which is a big switch from former feelings of fear and trembling! Elisha feels like time is running out for her to get a bunch of things done beforehand. Last week we had a great time celebrating Robyn’s birthday.

“No Soup for You!!”

Filed under: Uncategorized — duesters @ 6:14 pm

Elisha and I were in a taxi on a Saturday evening on our way to TGIFriday’s for an evening of western food with 4 other couple friends of ours when we noticed this truck ahead of us. Our taxi driver, in very broken English, and with a heavy reliance on body language (picture a person scooping soup into their mouth, followed by a “berry gooot” and a thumb’s up) confirmed what we already knew. These dogs were on their way to the butcher. Dogs are considered good food here in Korea, and are most often eaten in soup. I have yet to try it, but Zach compared it to eating beef. Even he, however, balked at slurping down the cooked dog skin when it was offered…yeesh. Isn’t it interesting what different cultures consider tasty food? But, I get the impression that eating dog is on the wane here, as more and more people have dogs as pets. One thing that may even be obvious from the picture is that the dogs raised for food are very different from dogs raised as pets. They really are just another form of livestock, similar to hogs and cattle.

In other news….here’s a quote from Elisha that had me laughing today.

“I just have this urge to cook and bake and bake and bake….maybe it’s my nesting instinct kicking in.”

Sheesh, this having a pregnant wife is really rough. For my waistline!

Oh yes, there’s also a new Bluegrass tune in the “SongSpot” to the right. It’s a classic. Duelling Banjos – enjoy!

33 Weeks Along and Life Goes On

Filed under: Uncategorized — duesters @ 9:28 pm

Life continues to fly by, and things seem to be going well. Elisha is doing well, however, there have been a few changes lately. It seems that over the last couple of days, she’s started to exhibit clumsy behaviour that she blames on being pregnant. She’s also to the point where getting a deep breath is a challenge!  Of course, by this time Jr. is active and his movements are easily felt from the outside.  Our latest Dr.’s visit and sonogram showed that our boy, Duncan Reginald III, has a long femur measurement, and he’s average in weight – so far, he’s long and lean. Hmmm….wonder where he got that physique from?

In other news, Elisha and I enjoy taking part in leading worship at our local international church. I’ve cobbled together a video with excerpts from the last time we lead. Even though it’s only excerpts, it’s still just over 7 minutes long – a little long, I know, but if you’re interested, it’s here. Now keep in mind that the camera was not manned, so the footage is from the sound booth and the sound is basically what the mic on the camera picked up from the back of the church…in other words, if it sounds homely and lame, it’s not us, it’s the rotten technology we worked with!

The Great White North: Part II

Filed under: Uncategorized — duesters @ 8:40 pm

Here you’ll find a short video compilation of some of the quality footage I collected on our trip to Calgary. Emphasis on the word “quality”…. Let’s just say that the highlight of this clip is the guest appearance by two of Canada’s greatest ambassadors of all time; Bob and Doug Mackenzie. The video is just over 2 minutes long, in case you’re wondering.
