Recently, I challenged my class to read 13,000 pages in the span of about 3 weeks. If they succeeded, they’d earn themselves a party. Well, they met their target way before the deadline, so I was on the hook to give them their just desserts. Of course, being a teacher, I figured out a way to give them their party and also connect it to their learning. They were to come to the party dressed up as one of the characters from any of the books theyad read over the past reading challenge.  I was feeling pretty good about it all, and had arranged some fun games to play that would flesh out the theme, and had also attached points to the drinks, food and desserts they were to bring. It was all going great until they asked me who I would be dressing up as…”oh, uh, I hadn’t really thought about…” was my response.

The biggest problem was that I hadn’t read any books lately. (hypocrite, I know)  Then I remembered that I had read “A Walk in the Woods” by Bill Bryson, which is about his quest to hike the Appalachian Trail.  Ah Ha!  A hiker. That I can manage. So, by borrowing necessary items, I pieced together a reasonable costume.
Got the Toilet Paper too.
